Night one seemed to be going really well, but then it seems she managed to roll off the bed (it is only about a foot) onto the pillow we had put down just in case for this very reason. Needless to say Zoey was not happy about this at all. The next few hours were spent between Brian and I to get her to go back to sleep and stay asleep in her bed. At around 3 am thought we had finally succeeded, but no. Soooo, she ended up in bed with us...we all needed some sleep!
Suggestion I received at play group today at the library was to put a thick rolled up blanket along the edge of the opening on the bed and hope that when a foot, hand, etc. touches it the she will instinctively roll away from it and the now open side of her bed. We hope so! She is a mover when she sleeps and always has been. It is not uncommon for me to wake up with little feet on my chest when she has slept in our bed (this is not a good nights sleep for Mommy!). I know she will get used to the bed and I think that was the real problem last night that she just wanted comfort in the same after waking up on the floor...I don't blame her. What I am worried about is that she isn't going to figure out for a while how to avoid the opening and keep falling out.
So here is to hoping night 2 will be a success!
Update:
The blanket seems to have worked! Yay!!! Slept all night in her own bed and had no problems sleeping in it today for her nap. Phew! I'm not saying we are out of the woods, but for now we seem to be going in the right direction. And with this I bid you all a good night :) I wrote too soon...night 3 we fell apart and woke to screaming and sobbing tears (pretty sure it was a bad dream...it has happened a couple other times). She came to bed with us after it was apparent she wasn't staying in her bed by herself. Any suggestions???
